Catholics Without Boundaries brings together Liberian and non-Liberian Catholics around the world, fostering communion among members and the dioceses of their origin and supporting the Catholic Church in Liberia.

CWB seeks to foster communion among its members and the dioceses of their origin, collaborate with and assist Church authorities in Liberia, deepen Catholic faith and spiritual growth, and provide support for the Church’s developmental and charitable objectives.

The Catholic Church in Liberia is served through three dioceses, each guided by its bishop. Catholics Without Boundaries seeks to foster communion with the dioceses of origin and support the Church in Liberia.

Archbishop of Monrovia
The Archdiocese of Monrovia traces its roots to the early 20th century when Catholic missionaries, notably from the Society of African Missions (SMA), began pastoral work in Liberia. In 1934, the mission territory was elevated to the status of a Prefecture Apostolic. It was later raised to the rank of a Vicariate Apostolic in 1950 and eventually established as the Diocese of Monrovia in 1981. With continued growth in the Catholic population and pastoral structures, Monrovia was elevated to a Metropolitan Archdiocese on December 19, 1981. The Archdiocese serves as the Mother See of the Catholic Church in Liberia and is responsible for coordinating the pastoral, educational, social, and developmental mission of the Church across its parishes and institutions.

Bishop of Gbarnga
The Catholic Diocese of Gbarnga, established in 1987 in North-Central Liberia, encompasses Bong, Lofa, and Nimba Counties, covering 32,000 km² with 17 parishes and over 200 outstations. The diocese’s mission is to propagate the Catholic faith and alleviate human suffering by addressing poverty’s root causes through humanitarian and developmental services. It aims for effective community participation in sustainable development activities. Key historical milestones include the ordination of its first bishop, Benedict Dotu Sekey, in 1987, and subsequent leadership transitions to Bishop Lewis Zeigler in 2002 and Bishop Anthony Fallah Borwah in 2011. The diocese operates as a non-profit organization with various program departments.

The Diocese of Cape Palmas was formally established on December 2, 1981, after being elevated from the Prefecture Apostolic of Cape Palmas, created in 1968. Covering 14,000 square miles, the Diocese serves Maryland, Sinoe, Grand Kru, Grand Gedeh, and River Gee counties in southeastern Liberia. Its first bishop, Boniface Nyema Dalieh, was appointed in 1981 and established a foundation emphasizing spiritual guidance and education. Since 2011, Bishop Andrew Jagaye Karnley has led the Diocese, continuing its mission of spiritual growth, education, and holistic development. Under his leadership, the Diocese remains committed to empowering individuals through knowledge, moral discipline, and opportunities for community development.
