Early Catholic Mission
Catholic missionaries began pastoral work in Liberia in the early 20th century, laying foundations for the growth of the Catholic faith and Catholic communities.
1934 — Apostolic Prefecture
The mission territory was elevated to the status of an Apostolic Prefecture.
1950 — Apostolic Vicariate
The Church’s presence continued to develop, and the territory was raised to the rank of an Apostolic Vicariate.
1981 — Diocese of Monrovia
The Church reached another significant milestone with the establishment of the Diocese of Monrovia.
December 19, 1981 — Metropolitan Archdiocese
Monrovia was elevated to a Metropolitan Archdiocese, becoming the Mother See of the Catholic Church in Liberia.
